Crested |
| Adolphus Goss, the eldest son of William Henry Goss who had
founded the Goss pottery in 1858, was responsible for the introduction of Crested China.
When Adolphus Goss put forward his idea to his father he was disappointed to find his
father did not share his enthusiasm. Despite this, Adolphus succeeded in getting the small
pieces made and crested. the success of the project was so great that production of
crested china soon entirely replaced production of all other Goss wares and within five
years the floor space of the building had been trebled to cope with the demand. In the circumstances, since Belleek gained so much from Goss, it is not surprising that it also followed them into the crested market. All Belleek crested pieces are hard to find. 2nd period pieces are more common, but very occasionally 1st period pieces turn up. |
