Centre Pieces |
| Kept at Belleek is an unique photograph Album dated around 1872.
the first 141 photographs have captions written with them which are thought to have been
entered by Mr. Armstrong himself. more photographs have been added at a later date, of
which some have been titled "Paris Exhibition Samples". All of the important
Centre Pieces made by Belleek feature in this album. The Belleek range of Centre Pieces is comparatively small, and some make up part of Dessert Services. Also some of the pieces under this heading could arguably have entered under Vases, as flowers could be arranged in them, but on balance they are too large and decorative to be used sensibly as vases. By far the largest and most spectacular is the International Centre Piece especially made for the Paris Exhibition of 1900 where it won a Gold Medal. Intricately made with a delicate pierced throat, the vase symbolised Ireland, featuring not only the harp but also the Wolfhounds. There is a fine example of this piece in the front entrance of the pottery. |

| PRINCE OF WALES CENTRE PIECE The top is not original, being a Tridacna bread plate, but illustrates the sort of "marriage" sometimes found. |
MINSTREL CENTRE PIECE The
putties playing the musical instruments are the same as the Minstrel Paperweights. This
piece was acquired by the museum in 1883. |
